Loop is an on-going, developing project by HyperBody related to MetaBody (an EU Culture Project).
The idea presenting here is just a rough and initial idea of a transformable pavilion
which has it's own behaviors, and pro-activeness.
Conceptually, the pavilion should act as a living creature
and have the ability to interact and communicate with people surround and environment.
An infinite loop shape was composed by 14 joints with 3 dimensional degree of freedom.
The connections were considered as tubes at this moment.
This loop shape will be the main transformable structure of the pavilion,
and fortunately will be attached by layers of skin system later on
cooperated with other artists.
The software generating the loop structure is called "vREP" ,
which is normally used to simulate robots in virtual world.
We try to build up the structure by Vrep (virtual robot experiment platform)
with it's powerful calculation of mechanism and physics, but still under development to
achieve more proper and complete model out of the simulation.
The idea is to use the simulation to have an overall view of the structure movement
and get the torque/force information of each of the joints from the simulation for
the actual physical experiment, which we haven't achieve yet.
The video just try to express the idea of how the structure will (sort of ) behave,
and how the people react with this transformable pavilion.
(The project is still under development phase).
